Sick Puppy

Please keep Daisy in your prayers today. She has been sick on and off this past week. She would throw up or have "other" stomach issues and then she would be fine for a couple days. This cycle happened twice so I decided to take her to the vet last night when I came home to find she had an accident in the apt (which she NEVER does). I took her out to go the bathroom before we went to the vet and she threw up AND she had blood in her stool (this was the 1st time). I was so scared and basically ran to the vet and had A leave work to meet me there. They examined her, took her blood and gave her a doggy IV. I have to try to get a stool sample (sorry if this is TMI) today from her so they can test it. The vet said she could have a variety of things, but it was probably some type of virus or a parasite. She just had her annual check up in August and was fine and we obviously take good care of her. She will be 4 years old in January and this is only the 2nd time she has ever been sick. =( The vet put her on two pills a day in case it was an infection and she is also on special canned dog food for the next week (which she ate like a champ last night.) I am so worried about her. I know she'll be okay, but I was in tears walking to the vet I was so scared. This really is my first baby and I love her so much. Please say a prayer that this is nothing serious. I know many of you have followed Daisy's stories since I started my blog so I wanted to fill you in.

Aww man. I want to give her little snoot a smooch. I hope it is something minor that the vet can easily cure.

Why it is SO hard when the fur babies are sick? Nightmare.

Very sorry to hear about your dog...just a little hint, make sure she isn't eating any raw hide bones or ones that aren't easily digestible. My dog has the same problems and we figured out it was from the bones he was chewing. Hope everything gets better.

Get better soon, Daisy! Our bishon frise had blood in her stool once- turns out she was chewing on her ( rattan) doggy bed

I'll say a prayer for your sweet girl. I did want to tell you though, don't freak out too much about the blood thing. I have had it happen with one of my dogs and I was completely panicked...thinking she was dying. Our vet said that it's a very common reaction to a stomach irritation for dogs and doesn't mean what it does for humans. It's so hard to have a dog or a baby who is sick and can't communicate anything with you. -Melinda

she is so precious, and so is your heart, for the way you love her. i am putting her on my p-list. i know you'll keep us updated. i have a lola that i love the way you love daisy so my heart goes out to you.

i also noticed that you are due on the same date my middle daughter was due. i had her on the 11th. i wanted a valentines baby, but they induced because my first daughter weighed over 9lbs. she weighed over 10, so i guess i should be glad they induced.

My Sadie has been going though tummy troubles too for about two months. We finally concluded that she is allergic to gluten. So now I make her rice and boiled chicken, with a teaspoon of pureed pumpkin (from a can) in each meal. She has to have extra vitamins to compensate. They do make gluten free dog foods but after all the trauma we have both been through, I have zero desire to take her off the diet that seems to be working right now. Talk about spoiled- a momma-made meal each and every morning and evening. It's not that bad though because I make a week's worth at a time and just keep it in the fridge. Oh the things we do for our furry babies!!

Sending you & Daisy the best. It is so hard seeing our "babies" in distress, isn't it?

Pfeiffer (my parents' yellow lab) had something like that. They eventually had to operate (they never did find out exactly what was wrong). There is an AMAZING animal hospital in Red Bank, NJ (where Pfeif was - they actually had to "vet ambulance" her there from the AC office) - which is close to NYC, if that helps calm your nerves a bit.

How sad, I will keep her in my thoughts!
