Baby Blue with a Rosette AND Faux Pearls

The bow is blue (yesterday it was a deep purple) for all of you that have been waiting around wondering what color bow the bow doc is wearing today. Ha, Ha! She is now driving me up a wall so I don't feel bad anymore about posting the color of her bow.

Wednesday night we had the NYC blogger meet up at Balon on the UES. It was great to meet some of you! We will certainly do it again next month. There were 8 of us this time (including 2 readers and 6 bloggers.)

Those bloggers in attendance (besides myself) were:

http://www.bisforbrown.blogspot.com and http://summerscakes.blogspot.com/
http://bamabelleinthebigcity.blogspot.com/
http://sunshineinnycity.blogspot.com/
http://mmmmtastesgood.blogspot.com/
http://entertaintheplan.blogspot.com/

This weekend A and are going to a jazz concert at The Lincoln Center. His boss gave us some great seats and since Bama isn't playing we figured we would spend 1 Saturday night without football. I can't wait for the concert--now what to wear?? I also want to organize Baby U's closet and try to make some more space. I've never tried selling anything on ebay or Craig's List (I'm a pro buyer on ebay), but I think I'm about to try it. Any tips? I also want to work on my Dream Christmas list. (To be posted next week.) I want to get some good slippers for the hospital and the days after. Any suggestions?

My current favorite maternity warm clothes are this and these and this (I'm about to buy a few more of these) and this (borrowed from a friend). Does anyone in the Preppy Preggo club have any others I should try? Any good finds for Christmas parties? Speaking of the Preppy Preggos we have a new member. I am so excited that J from The Preppy Wedding is our newest member. She has started a new blog, The Preppy Baby. J was my inspiration to start my own blog and I had the pleasure of meeting her last year in NYC. I am so excited for her!

Also, a special congrats to Preppy Preggo member Southern Fried Girl who delivered a sweet boy on Nov 13th!

Today is the last day to sign up for my Lillybella Boutique giveaway. Click here to sign up. Lillybella is going to pick later today so HURRY!

Want to win these cute Christmas Coasties? Here is what you have to do:

1) Go to Lillybella Boutique and pick out your favorite item.

2) Come back here to this post and leave a comment about that item.

GIVEAWAY WINNER!!

Last night A and I had the incredible opportunity to go to a cocktail party on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. (I wore a black Gap Maternity long sleeve dress, black maternity tights from Mimi--ouch, pearls and silver TB flats) The business school that he received his MBA from hosted this fabulous event and I was so excited to be invited too! Unfortunately, I was unable to take pictures on the floor due to the high security. We did get invited to go up on the balcony (where they ring the bell each morning/afternoon) and get our picture taken by a professional while banging the gavel. It was SO COOL! I am not planning to do Christmas cards this year because I thought I should just save my money to do a pretty baby announcement in Feb, but I'm so tempted to get this picture once it comes out and use it! If the market does well today--it was all me! Ha, Ha!

Yesterday afternoon I got a call from David Letterman. Okay, well it wasn't Letterman but one of his girls. A and I were talking over the weekend all the things we wanted to do in the city before the baby comes and I mentioned going to see Letterman again. I saw him about four years ago and it was a blast! Anyways, I signed up to win tickets and they called me!! I had to answer a trivia question---what color is Alan's hair? Do you know? =) I did and I won!! Look out for the pregnant girl in Monday nights audience. Oh gosh I hope he doesn't make fun of me!

Thanks so much to Donovan Designs and The Paper Cafe for hosting this great contest. I typed out all of your names and gave double entries and triple entries to those that posted the contest on their blogs and those that told me they are followers or became a follower. Enough of all that what you really want to know is did you win!!

The winner of the 5 calendars are:

1) Susan D
2) Molly's Mom
3) Amanda
4) Lianna Knight
5) Because Katie Says So

Thanks to everyone for entering! Don't worry we'll do another one soon. How's next week for y'all? =)

Bow doc is a REALLY nice doc so I feel bad with the updates, but it is black and white today if you were wondering. She has a on pretty black/white tweed shoes and black skirt and black/white skirt...and a black and white bow.

Lime Green Baby!

Random thoughts (aka complaints) about pregnancy-Mrs. Preppy inspired me and Some Like It Southern joined me.

1) Jcrew-why oh why have you not joined the club. Your loyal customers have babies and for 9 whole months we don't know what to do without you. You tease up with 30% off sweater sales but our big ole baby bumps aren't fitting into those pretty new cashmere sweaters. We have to buy Old Navy cashmere. Please create a collection before I have my 2nd child (you have at least 2-3 years.) PS. Old Navy, I don't know how I would live without you. I've worn this sweater so much that I'm going to have to buy a new one. Oh and my hubby isn't laughing at me in my old red Juno style hoodie anymore, because I'm lounging around the house in this fabulous hoodie.

2) Who the hell are these people that say they love being pregnant? Do they not have constant heartburn (God bless Berry flavored tums), reflux in the middle of the night (Zantac 75 I love you), "potty problems" (hello Colace didn't know about you before but I love you now), oh and the queen of all drugs my beloved Zofran. I would not be a functioning human being without you. Don't get my wrong. I am blessed and excited to be a Mom, but feeling like a whale is not something I'm enjoying. And I have 87 days left...not that I'm counting or anything.

3) Pregnancy tights stink. We won't even talk about how difficult it is to put on said tights with a large belly in your way. The little tasks of bending down just aren't working so well these days.

4) I don't think I've ever loved my husband more than when he cut my toenails for me. Granted I'm going to need a pedicure now, but he understands why and will be paying for them as often as I desire. =)

5) Is it possible for a rib to pop out of your stomach?

6) Has anyone found some WARM maternity pants? Lightweight wool is not going to cut it in a few weeks.

7) If you have ever wondered if it is possible to scream, laugh, cry, laugh, fall asleep in a matter of 5 minutes...well it is and I did it last night. God bless A and sweet Daisy.

8) What am I going to do when my child turns 4 months? I have an entire closet of wonderful 0-3 month clothes that friends and family have given me, but I'm in trouble if Baby U is a big boy!

9) It is not cool to tell a pregnant woman she looks big, bigger, huge or is growing. Looking at her and saying "wow" also is not cool. If you are wondering what to say to her, here is a cheat sheet of things that make me smile:

a) You wear pregnancy very well. (A has been instructed to use this with all pregnant woman from here on out and tells me daily now.)
b) You look fabulous (cute, adorable, glowing, fantastic all work too)!
c) You are all baby!

10) Do NOT comment on what I'm eating. It is none of your business and I don't want to hear about it.

Coming to NYC anytime soon? These are the musicals on my "To See" list. I want to see at least 3 before the baby arrives.

It's Navy Blue Today

Last night I met up with my Junior League placement and we went to Rosa Mexicano! It was a blast and I'm making some great new friends. My friend K is coming to visit this weekend and I CAN'T wait. K just had a baby girl about 2 months ago and her MIL told her to take a break for the weekend. She deserves it and I can't wait to catch up with her this weekend!

One of my NYC blogger friends, Mmmm...Tastes Good, bestowed the Bloggy Goodness Award on me. I finally get to meet her in real life next week. Check out her blog for some fab recipes. I'm not really sure what the rules of this one are so I'm just going to give it away to 7 of you.

1) Love, Life and Labs
Happy 3rd Anniversary!

2) Mrs. Preppy
She's my long lost friend I'm pretty sure. Wish she was in NYC so we could complain about our pregnancy problems together. =)

3) Grove Gals-
Sent me the most precious things for Daisy. I'm going to post pics soon with a proper thank you post!
4) Jenna's Journey
One of my fellow pregnant ladies!

5) My Inner Seamstress
Mel is saving the day with Monkey (see below.)

6) Puttin on the Grits
She's pure Southern goodness. I wish she and Country would hop on a plane and come visit me in NYC!

7) Baby Belle in the Big City
My real life friend who is having some serious boy problems. Hang in there Belle at least we have the Tide! Repeat after me--two tigers down, one more to go. RTR!

The weather in NYC has been chilly as of lately. I had to retire my long black coat this week when button number 3 didn't quite button across the growing belly. The split in the back of the jacket was apparently giving a full view of my growing behind. My friend A loaned me her Land's End maternity puffy coat and that fits much better! My only problem with the puffy coat is I just look really fat in it. Last night no one could tell I was pg on the subway and for the 1st time in a few months no one got up to give me their seat. They just thought I was a fat girl. Tear. Would it be wrong to unzip my jacket and stick my belly out so I can get a subway seat? Ha, Ha! My maternity wardrobe has done well so far, but the panel on my Pea in the Pod pants is now making a mark on my belly...not a good sign when I have 3 months to go! I also need to find a few maternity sweaters to keep me warm in the upcoming months.

I need some good winter shoes. Any suggestions? I normally just wear flats (BC Babycakes in one of 3 colors or my TB Revas in one of 2 colors), but I absolutely hate the look of socks with flats, but my toes are cold so I would love to find something cute where the sock with the shoe isn't offensive. I wear my Uggs when it is really cold or my Hunters when it is raining or snowing, but I need an everyday comfy cute shoe for my daily walk to work.

Speaking of my daily walk, I stopped into Starbucks yesterday and had my first gingersnap latte (formally the gingerbread latte--not sure what's up with the name change.) Has anyone signed up for the gold rewards card? I feel like I need one, but I'm not sure if it is worth it.

Great news!! Although our Monkey is still being held hostage by a mean lady somewhere in the DC area, one my fellow Monkey hostesses has offered up her sweet Monkey, Carolina, to complete Monkey's journey across the United States. Hostesses that have not received Monkey yet have the option of Carolina coming to visit them. What a wonderful person Melanie is! Click here if you want to read up on all that has been happening or join the fun in hosting Monkey.

They were filming this movie in my hood this past weekend. Too bad I didn't see anyone famous! Not sure how the UES ties into the movie?

I know you were wondering about the bow doc, she is wearing a navy blue (rather short) suit and a navy blue bow today. I would love to take a pic, but I would love to stay at my job even more. =)

Have you signed up for my giveaway yet? You can win a cute 2009 Donovan Designs Calendar! I'm giving away 5 of them from The Paper Cafe! You have until Friday so get to it! Click here for the rules and to post a comment.

Laugh with Me

I know this is kinda mean, but I have to share. My boss just hired another doctor for our department and she wears bows with her suits. Not Blair Waldorf cute headband bows, but think more like this. The one yesterday looked just like that one (complete with rosette.) Today she has on a crimson suit and a matching crimson bow. Did I mention that she's 40+. I wish y'all were here with me to see her. I am trying to behave, but every time she walks by my desk I have to look away so I don't start laughing.

NYC Bloggers (and Readers) Meet Up

I know we have tried this before, but since I have not been able to go to a meet up yet I thought I would plan one! I want to include all NYC area bloggers and readers. If you are interested leave me a comment here and I'll email you so we can meet up for dinner/drinks in the next two weeks. I'm thinking either the 19th or 20th of this month.

***************************************************************************************
UPDATE---I'm thinking 7:15pm on the 19th of November. Does that work for y'all? We will certainly do it again if this one works out. Email me at: magnoliasmarriageandmanhattan@gmail.com so I can communicate location and time to you. The more the merrier!!

Monday Ramblings

Happy Monday! Did y'all have a good weekend? We did. I ate dinner here with my Aunt and Uncle on Friday. The game was AMAZING. We barely pulled it off, but the Tide is still #1 and we clinched the SEC West Title and we will meet Florida in the SEC Championship in Atlanta on December 6th. The thought of playing Florida makes baby U do little flips in my tummy. We still have to play MS State this Saturday and Auburn Thanksgiving weekend and I don't take either team lightly. However...two tigers down--one more to go!! RTR!

One of my very favorite stationery designers is The Paper Menu. I have their flat note cards, their calling cards, their baby flat note cards, I've picked their invites for countless invitations---and guess who just jumped on The Paper Menu bandwagon---OPRAH! Marie's creation of personalized gift wrap is featured in O Magazine. Now, we'll forget about the part where I posted about this gift wrap this last year. Ha, Ha. Congrats Marie! So excited for you! When Oprah notices you, you've hit the big time! Remember us when you are famous. I'm still waiting on that Alabama Stationery line...

I have a few questions for YOU:

1) What kind of trash can do you have? I am in the market for a nicer trash can with a lid. I was going to get a diaper champ (they use regular trash bags so you don't have to buy special ones) in addition to our regular trash can, but it really just does not make sense. Most of my friends in NYC and those in the South with small homes say they do not get the diaper champ/genie and just take the trash out as needed. I truly do not have room for both. I take our trash out everyday (I just have to bring it to a room right next to our apt) and our current trash can is actually in our "nursery" since it is pretty much connected to our kitchen. (Got to love NYC livin') Anyways, what's your trash can recommendation? These are a few that I'm looking at: this one, this one, this one or this one.

2) If you have a baby--what crib mattress did you buy? There are options from $50-$500. My inclination is to just pick one in the middle range like this one or this one or this one? What did you do? Thoughts?

Catching Y'all Up

Whew! I have not stopped all week! I'm off today (have to work on Sunday) and I'm in the midst of my 5th load of laundry while watching the Baby Story on DVR (I cry every time a baby is born). We are heading to dinner tonight at a French restaurant with my Aunt and Uncle from Newport Beach. Tomorrow we are watching the LSU/Bama game at Brother Jimmys with a group of friends. ROLL TIDE!

I'm 26 weeks now (and 5 days) and Baby U is the length of an English cucumber. The nerves in his ears are developing and he can hear A and I talk! I better watch my language-ha, ha! He's practicing breathing movements and packing on the baby fat. He weighs around a pound and two-thirds and measures around 14 inches. I don't think he liked the take off and landing of the planes, but I know he enjoyed some of the good Southern food I ate! I'm starting to get a little more uncomfortable as I near my 3rd trimester. I have had a lot of back pain and the heartburn has kicked in full force! My few nights in the South without my Snoogle were not very comfy. Gosh, I love that pillow!

A and I had a WONDERFUL trip back to Alabama. I spent Wednesday and Thursday in South Alabama and then headed to Birmingham on Friday afternoon. I got to see my friend A at Mary Ann's and enjoy my favorite French Dip sandwich (with a side of ranch). I finally met my friend A's baby girl, Scarlett, and if it was even possible, she is cuter in person. I checked out a few baby stores in Fairhope with my Mom and she treated me to my favorite, a Fairhope float from Mr. Gene's Beans. It was great to see my parents, although bitter sweet as well because we were all dealing with the loss of our sweet chocolate lab Scarlet. My younger brother arrived on Thursday evening in route to his 6th Widespread Panic show (in two months) in New Orleans. It was great to catch up and see him.

Mom and I headed north on 65 (with a quick stop at Bates House of Turkey) to Birmingham on Friday. We had a great time catching up with A's parents and we went to one of my favorite restaurants in the ham, Bottega, for dinner with my old boss and his wife (the man that introduced A and I and was our 70 year old ring bearer). The S boys came by to Trick or Treat and I finally got to meet baby Sam and see Charlie in his fancy fireman's outfit.

Saturday morning was my 1st baby shower at a cute local Bham restaurant! It was absolutely perfect and I was overwhelmed having so many of my Southern friends that I had not seen in so long in one room. I wish it could have lasted all day so I would have had more time with each of them. One of my favorite parts of the shower was that 6 of my friends in attendance are also expecting. We even took a picture together! My younger sister said we made her feel quite skinny. =)

Baby U and I were completely spoiled by my sweet friends. The hostesses gave us his infant car seat and a swing. My Mom gave us his bouncy seat and a monogrammed outfit and diaper cover. A's Mom gave us a baby spoon (in my silver pattern), some hand sewn outfits and even some of A's old baby clothes! My sister gave us a Baby Bjorn and a Bama pacifier. My grandmother gave us a whole collection of baby books that I can't wait to read to him. He also received a ton of precious blue outfits, a boppy pillow, books, a bath towel and supplies, blankets and more! A and I are so grateful for all of the gifts to help get us started with our 1st baby!

I gave my 14 fabulous hostesses monogrammed soaps from The Palm Gifts as their hostess gifts. I think they really liked them.

After the shower, my sister and I headed to Tuscaloosa to meet up with A and watch the Crimson Tide play Arkansas State. We won 35 to 0 and it was a blast actually being in the stands! Did you notice we are number 1 in the nation right now? It may not last for long since we have a few very tough games left (including LSU tomorrow), but we are enjoying it this week! RTR!

Here are a few pictures from the game:

(to be posted tonight)

A few of our friends mentioned grabbing a quick bite to eat on Saturday night and without any planning a group of 4 turned somehow into 14 of our nearest and dearest! I definitely miss our friends and family the most in NYC. It was great for A to get to see a lot of his buddies and I continued the visiting with my friends at Cocina Superior. I was even able to get some yummy cheese dip (remember it does not exist in NYC)!

Sunday we did not leave until late afternoon so we continued our eat-fest at our favorite locations by meeting a group of my friends at Jim and Nicks. BBQ tastes MUCH better in the South! Sunday afternoon we also caught up with a few more of our friends and their kids. E and A came by and brought their precious little girl, Mary Cate. MC was the star of the show and impressed A and I by singing Row, Row, Row Your Boat, The Itsy Bitsy Spider, and her ABCs in an impressive medley format. We stopped by A and M's new house to visit baby Elisabeth and pick up a puffy maternity coat! Elisabeth is beyond cute and the A's new place is fabulous step up from our apartment (that they used to live in it before us).

Our trip was a whirlwind and we missed seeing a few people that we really wanted to see, but overall we fit quite a bit into a short period of time! We can't wait to be back in the South for Thanksgiving and hopefully Christmas too.

On a side note, thank you all for your prayers for Bonnie. Sadly, her twin babies are now in heaven. She delivered them on Halloween morning. Please keep her family in your prayers as they deal with the loss of their first two children. I trust and know God has an amazing plan for them.
