Doctor's Orders

I had a surprising appointment yesterday afternoon. Some good news and some not so good news. The good news is that baby J's heartbeat sounds great and he seems to be doing well. Dr. A said based on my measurements that perhaps he won't be a 12-lber after all and she guesses that he just had an early growth spurt that has evened out. She estimates he is around 7.5lbs right now. (But, still growing of course!)

The bad news is that my blood pressure is too high and I've been put on partial bed rest. I was only half kidding with my coworkers yesterday afternoon about not coming back today. I was not expecting Dr. A to actually tell me that I had just concluded my last day of work. She said I can take one outing a day, but the majority of my time needs to be spent on the sofa. I'm 1 cm dilated, 50% effaced and she said my cervix was very soft (how delightful!) She said the good news is that since I'm 36 weeks, if she needs an exit strategy due to preeclampsia (they are currently running my blood work to rule that out--so please say a prayer I don't have that!) that she can induce me as early as next week if she feels it is necessary. She said I certainly will not be pregnant for another month (thank you God!) I have to go back to get my blood pressure checked again on Friday, so please keep your fingers crossed. Otherwise, I'll just be seeing her every Wednesday at 5:30pm until baby J arrives!

Good thing I have lots of thank you notes to write and books to read! This could be a long couple of weeks of waiting for my precious little boy to arrive so you'll be hearing a lot from me!!

i'll be praying for you. i wish i could call you right now to tell you this whole story, but my cousin just delivered her baby on sunday night. she wasn't due until the 17th. she was put on bed rest due to high blood pressure. her baby was 7 pounds when she was 34 weeks! she was induced, but never dilated-- she wasn't even at 1 cm when she went in. anyway, she and baby are doing great and the baby only ended up weighing 8 pounds.

great news that you won't be pregnant for another month! hang in there. enjoy relaxing and preparing for baby j. we're all pulling for you both!

I am excited you're in the home stretch!!!! I had preclampsia and it was not fun! I'll pray you don't have it! As for the bathtub, you might just need the foam pad that goes in the bath if your bath is easily accessible. I'll do a post on bathtubs next week for you to show you all your options.

I didn't read this post until now ... so sorry! I have been there and while it isn't loads of fun, you are doing what is best for your baby. Oh, and if you are going to have a 12-pounder, go ahead and buy size 2 diapers! good luck and take care of yourself and baby j!
