Monday Ramblings

Happy Monday! Did y'all have a good weekend? We did. I ate dinner here with my Aunt and Uncle on Friday. The game was AMAZING. We barely pulled it off, but the Tide is still #1 and we clinched the SEC West Title and we will meet Florida in the SEC Championship in Atlanta on December 6th. The thought of playing Florida makes baby U do little flips in my tummy. We still have to play MS State this Saturday and Auburn Thanksgiving weekend and I don't take either team lightly. However...two tigers down--one more to go!! RTR!

One of my very favorite stationery designers is The Paper Menu. I have their flat note cards, their calling cards, their baby flat note cards, I've picked their invites for countless invitations---and guess who just jumped on The Paper Menu bandwagon---OPRAH! Marie's creation of personalized gift wrap is featured in O Magazine. Now, we'll forget about the part where I posted about this gift wrap this last year. Ha, Ha. Congrats Marie! So excited for you! When Oprah notices you, you've hit the big time! Remember us when you are famous. I'm still waiting on that Alabama Stationery line...

I have a few questions for YOU:

1) What kind of trash can do you have? I am in the market for a nicer trash can with a lid. I was going to get a diaper champ (they use regular trash bags so you don't have to buy special ones) in addition to our regular trash can, but it really just does not make sense. Most of my friends in NYC and those in the South with small homes say they do not get the diaper champ/genie and just take the trash out as needed. I truly do not have room for both. I take our trash out everyday (I just have to bring it to a room right next to our apt) and our current trash can is actually in our "nursery" since it is pretty much connected to our kitchen. (Got to love NYC livin') Anyways, what's your trash can recommendation? These are a few that I'm looking at: this one, this one, this one or this one.

2) If you have a baby--what crib mattress did you buy? There are options from $50-$500. My inclination is to just pick one in the middle range like this one or this one or this one? What did you do? Thoughts?

Congrats on the little one's impending arrival! We were in Japan when our little one was born so I researched everything we bought before buying. I wasn't able to get the mattress I wanted because of shipping restrictions so no advice on that to pass on. I will tell you that I am a huge fan of our Diaper Dekor Plus. It was the best thing we bought for him and I have a very sensitive nose. Aside from the Infantino shopping car/highchair cover, the Diaper Dekor Plus was a Godsend! Hope this helps! A word to the wise, they poop too much to rely on a regular trash removal, in my opinion! ~L

You can buy these little bags to put the diaper in so they don't stink up your trash too much - we swear by them!

We have a SimpleHuman trash can with a foot pedal. We used to have a sensor trash can, but it failed after a while and we couldn't get it open!

No matter what, learn from my mistake. Buy a foam mattress, NOT a spring mattress. Your back will thank you. Also, waterproof!

We have the target trash can and it is fabulous. Sleek and great for city living plus it blends so nicely with our appliances. I'm jealous about the blogger meet up - we need to do a Philly one as well :)

We have stainless Simple Human trash cans with foot pedals and we love them. We also opted not to get a special diaper trash can, and it's been working out just fine.

We got an average mattress, like the ones you linked, and we aired it out for a few weeks before putting any bedding on it. If you haven't got that kind of time, I'd go for an organic one. Straight out of the wrapping, regular mattresses really stink, so they need that time to air out.

we have built in trash/recycling cabinets, but have the simple human trash can that we use in our laundry room. if you take out the trash every day any way, i don't think you need a diaper champ too. if you have an especially smelly one, a plastic grocery bag helps and just tie it in a knot. we did mid range crib mattresses. from babies r us, maybe sealy brand?

wish i could help with the diaper/trash can and the mattress, but no babies in the MC household yet.

I can, however, share your love for Marie and her little creation--Paper Menu.
When I first started my business, Paper Menu was the second line of stationery that I aquired. It has been a huge hit ever since those early days! I love the wrapping apper and the recipe cards are way cool too. Way to go Marie!

Hi! I went to a college with no football team, so I kind of cheer for whoever I want, and I was at Smith's Old Bar over the weekend watching the game. I was rooting for you guys - roll tide and SEC football! :)

A little late on this comment, but I agree with the Simple Human stainless trash can. We got the $60 one from BB&B and it works great!
