Making it through Morning (and Afternoon and Evening) Sickness

Ok, the next few posts are going to catch you up on what I've been writing but not posting the past few months! I promise I won't overload you with baby talk all the time now--but it will certainly be a major topic for the next 200 days!

I am one of the 75% of women who experiences morning sickness. Given my weak stomach, I knew I probably would have problems and sure enough around week six/seven it hit me like a tractor trailer. I've searched high and low for cures because it makes being at work in the mornings very tough.

Here is what I've been told by my OBGYN:

1/2 tab of Unisom twice a day (after getting sick 3-8 times a day for a week I was moved up to Zofran--a drug used for chemo patients!)

changed prenatal vitamin to one that includes more vitamin B6

Cut a lemon in half and take a whiff (well it smells good but I'm still nauseous)

Here is what I've read that should work and didn't:

Crystallized Ginger (it's so freaking nasty)

Lemon Drops (they are not to be found in NYC--my husband did come back with three packs (from three different stores near our apartment) of lemonheads really just taste good)

Here is what I've tried that "kinda" works:

Ginger cookies & Ginger snaps (wheat free)

Ginger ale (full sugar)

Ritz Crackers

Lemon/Ginger Tea (kinda not so good)

Mint Tea (very yummy)

I have not tried (but it has been suggested):

Seabands

Biobands

Ginger candies

Preggie Pops

Editors Note: Wrote this post back in June when I was really dying. I am starting to feel MUCH better as I near my 12th week and I'm hoping I will just continue to improve. Please don't leave a comment that you felt great during your 1st trimester. I might not like you anymore. =) J/K

I feel so bad for you because I was so sick my first trimester. No one really understood that the nausea was all day long!! I will tell you that like a miracle it did stop for me at around the 3-4 month mark. So good luck. Nothing really worked for me, but I totally agree with you on the cyrstalized ginger....gross! It was so spicy!!! I did carry preggie pops in my purse all the time.
Congrats again!!

While you can hate me for not having any nausea, I've made up for it unattractive breakouts. I dream of the day when my skin gets back to normal... which according to my OB may be MONTHS after Baby Belle is born. Fab.

For nausea I was told that Peanut Butter would help, also smelling newsprint! I still do the newsprint thing if I am not feeling well- I haven't been pregnant in 12 years! :)

Oh honey, I felt like hammered ass too. It was no bueno. If I ate a sandwich or something that stuck with me I felt loads better.

I'm glad you are seeing the light at the end of the pukey tunnel.

I don't know how I missed this news, but congrats!!!! I'm thrilled for you.

I was sick constantly for the first 16 weeks or so, I definitely can relate. I lived on sour Altoids--they really helped with the nausea.

the worst part about being pregnant is that you constantly feel hungover, even though you haven't had a drop to drink.

my sister is due with Baby number 3 in early Dec. She didn't really have morning sickness with the first two but with this one she said it seemed more like all day sickness. She was also more tired this time around. it could be because of the fact that last ime she didn't have to contend with a 2 and 3 yr old and was not having a new house built.

Zofran was a miracle for me..I just made 19 weeks and I am finally starting to feel like myself again..It will happen! hang in there!
Ginger snaps, saltine crackers, peppermint tea, and lemons did NOT work at all for me....and trust me I NEVER thought the sickness would end and it FINALLY did!!!!

I feel for you...I was permanently green. The only thing that worked for me was Jolly Rancher hard candies. My hubby used to buy them for me by the 2-lb. bag!
Hope you feel better!

I finally got some relief around 20 weeks. I tried the Biobands but they didn't help.

Hope you feel better soon!

I've never had a baby (or been preggo) but I used to work at a maternity shop in college, and we sold Preggo Pops there.... I ate them everytime I had an upset stomach(which I have quite often) and they worked miracles!

Sure do hope you're feeling better these days!

Zofran is the wonder drug for me. I'm in my 7th month and still have "all day" sickness.

Good luck, I'm so sorry but I swear it gets better.

Hang in there

I haven't read your blog in ages. Congrats on the pregnancy! As for the zofran, that stuff rocks. I took it for both of my pregnancies the entire time. Love that stuff (although watch out for that damn constipation). Good luck!
