I still have not had a chance to get the pictures from this past weekend uploaded. I'm a little behind on pictures. But, as I mentioned before we had a wonderful time. On Friday we woke up bright and early and were at the beach by 12:00pm. My Mom picked us up and we stopped here on the way to the beach to pick up some seafood for dinner and grab some lunch.
My friend "A" came by (the one that I missed the shower for who is due in May). It was great to catch up with her and see her cute belly. It's hard to believe so many of my friends are pregnant right now, but also so exciting. After "A" left my husband had a conference call, so I bravely put on my bikini (but with the bandeau top)and went with my Dad for a boat ride. Boat rides with my Dad might be one of my favorite things in the world. We had some great Daddy/Daughter time drinking beers and catching up. My moonbeam colored skin only needed a small amount of sun so after we returned we spent the rest of the afternoon eating oysters and crawfish and drinking beer. My idea of heaven!
We had a wonderful dinner that my Mom fixed and we just hung out and enjoyed lots of NCAA basketball and family time. I feel asleep on the sofa and missed the planned trip here. My junior in college sister had about 10 friends over for the last night of spring break '08 so my nap on the sofa did not last long. Was I that obnoxious when I was her age? Probably so.
On Saturday we met my friends "S" and "L" for lunch here. We went for a long boat ride with them after lunch, but had to return to our house so my husband could get on another conference call. (I'm not complaining, I'm still glad he was able to go). For dinner, we went here with "S", "L" and my brother. We had a great time and even made it to the FB afterwards ( I even renewed my membership card--I love looking at it in my wallet it was worth the $$). Easter morning we went to mass and then had a breakfast casserole my Mom and I made, Honeybaked Ham, Fresh Strawberries, West Indies Salad, Boiled Shrimp and whatever else was leftover in the fridge. We packed our bags and headed back to the COLD city.
Monday sucked. Yesterday was better. Today, please keep me in your prayers. I have another test and it is making me nervous. I'm so ready for them to figure out what is going on with me and even more ready to feel like myself again.
I hope everyone has a great day. I'm heading to Chicago on Saturday morning for work. I've only been once before about 7 years ago. Anyone have any suggestions of things to do/places to eat/etc. I'm not sure how much free time I'll have but I would love to hear your suggestions.

Breakfast- Coobah on Southport and Wishbone are our favorites
Lunch downtown- RL is great, the Watertower food court is also really good. Fox and Obel is a gourmet grocery store that also has great sandwiches, soups, and salads.
Dinner- Nacional 27 and Carnivale are both downtown and are wonderful. My favorite Italian is Rose Angelis in Lincoln Park- there's also an adorable bar across the street called Maeve. Sola and Chalkboard are contemporary American restaurants just south of Lincoln Square and both are really gourmet and really good.
I wish I had a fantastic place for Mexican cheese dip, but I don't! How long are you in town for?
Thanks AEO!!
I'll be there Sat-Tues.
I hope your test goes well and they figure out what's going on with you!
Oh wow, the Flora Bama, haven't thought of that place in years!!!!
I just went to Chicago for St. Pattys to visit my good friend from Southern Alabama :) We had such a great time! Are you going to be traveling alone or with co-workers (that you would like to do stuff with)?
I would recommend taking in a show at Second City one evening. It is in Old Town and is sketch comedy. A lot of the SNL performers get their start here... we went and it was a great time. Less than $20 and the servers bring beer to your table throughout the show.
If you haven't already done so, go up to the Signature Room on the 96th(?) floor of the John Hancock Building. We went up at night and the view of the city is just breathtaking!
One last place to check out is a French-Vietnamese place called Le Colonial. http://lecolonialchicago.com/ We had a wonderful meal here and it is apparently a favorite of celebs (my friend saw Patrick Swayze there a couple months ago).
And this is seriously the last one... don't forget to get pizza! We had Giordano's and it was delicious :)
Have a great time!!!
Thanks Amelia! I'll be alone...not even with coworkers. I'm not a good traveler alone person. =(
I'll say a prayer for you! I know you are so ready to have some answers.
hey- I live in the west loop and work downtown on Mich Ave, so if you have a panic moment and need to go have a drink with a blog friend- i would totally be there for ya. There are a million amazing places to eat in this city. Billy Goat has famous cheeseburgers- you know that SNL skit with Cheezborgercheezeborger Cheeseborger no fries! Chips! -- well they really do yell that. It is underneath Michigan ave- near the river- if you go down the stairs near walgreens at 412-ish N. michigan ave it will be right there. Also, I really like shaws oyster bar on hubbard- it is a fun place to happy hour, and any Irish Pub will welcome you! Are you at least coming with some co-workers?
anyway- I would also say that RL is fun- and the Ralph Lauren store on Michigan Ave is a MUST. For Mexican Cheese dip I might have to think a bit!
Depending upon where you are staying and since you love seafood and are from the South, try Joe's Stone Crab-60 E. Grand on the corner of Grand and Rush--very busy-it's not quite like the one in South Beach, but the food! Agree with AEO about the Food Court at the Watertower--kill two birds with one stone--food and shop!
Good luck with your tests--there certainly are taking their sweet time coming up a final diagnosis--I'd be a bit more verbal! Chicago is fantastic (and might be just as chilly as NYC)--Enjoy!
Love Chicago. The Sears tower has a restaurant on one of the top floors. You can ride up for free and have a lovely buffet lunch with an AMAZING view of the city. Then you don't have to pay to go to the top observatory, and it's a lovely experience. Not to pricey either.
Oops! I meant the JOhn Hancock building.
I hope your trip goes smoothly and I'll be sure to say a prayer for you!
I hope the doctors figure out what's going on soon. Please keep us posted.
Definitely squeeze in some deep dish pizza while you're there ... and I second Giordano's (better than Gino's East, at least in my book).
I've eaten at Zekes! It has been years b/c I haven't been to Orange Beach since the hurrican destroyed parts of it. We have been going to Destin the past several years.
SOunds like great food.
I hope your test go well.
You might contact Tres Posh Preppy about Chicago. She lives there.
Thinking of you! I hope your tests went well. Good luck and keep us posted. Have fun in Chicago!!
I hope your tests went well. I said a little prayer for you.
Chicago is awesome! My husband and I got engaged in Chicago so it has a special place in my heart!
You'll have a great time.
Thinking of you and hope the test goes well.
Hope you have a great trip-and I hope that all goes well with your testing:)
That whole weekend sounds fabulous. I am glad you had a good Easter. I NEED A TAN!!!! Even a little sun on my face would be great, so lucky you! Have a great trip to Chicago-never been, so no help there.
