Three Years Ago Today

Three posts in one day to celebrate that three years ago today I met my husband. I think I've told the story before, but for those new to the blog...

Friday, March 4, 2005 is a day I will never forget. It was the spring auction for a children's charity I was a member of. I had to sell tickets to the event and I hit up the owner of my company. He bought a ticket for him and his wife. B (my boss) had been trying to hook me up with his friend's son for awhile now. I had broken up with my boyfriend of two years in July and I was not quite ready to be going on blind dates with random guys my boss wanted to set me up with. It wasn't like I was desperate! Well, B comes into my cube and announces on Thursday afternoon that his wife had made dinner arrangements before he told her about the auction so they would not be able to go. And the kicker...he had called A (my husband) and invited him to go to the auction with me AND he had given him my phone number at work! Ahhh!! I was about to strangle B. So sure enough this guy (who is living at the time in Memphis) drives 6 hours to the auction. (I now realize that he also came because it was his birthday weekend and his parents live in the same town.)

Well, I get over the initial shock and I'm pretty excited I have a date! I told my roommates and my friends and picked out a cute outfit (cute black sweater and green and white polka dot skirt from banana republic). B told me that A was going to meet me at the auction and take me to dinner. A called me (at work) and told me he was excited to meet me and would call me as soon as he arrived. Well, I waited and I waited and I waited and the auction was almost over and no call from A. I remember sitting outside the room with my cellphone in my hand wondering if this guy had stood me up. Nope--turns out he showed up and saw some of his high school friends and none of them knew me so he was having trouble figuring out who I was (he forgot to call and mention he had arrived). Finally we met. I remember thinking he was pretty cute. He mentions to me that he is going to go grab dinner with his friends and maybe we could meet up for a drink later. He must have seen the look on my face, because then he mentions I can come if I want to. NO, I do not WANT to. Thank you very much. I was thinking, "what the hell happen to the nice dinner B told me he would take me to?" So I leave with my roommates and we go do dinner on our own. We split a bottle of wine to drown my sorrows and toast the date that never was. Around the end of dinner A calls me and asks me to meet him at a bar kinda far from where we were. I told him no thanks, I was on the other side of town but it was nice to meet him (SO THERE). We are leaving the restaurant and a car full of our other friends drive by and say change of plans we are all now going to a different bar. You guessed it, the bar where he was. I debate in the car if I should call and tell him I'm coming now or just show up. Thanks to the previously mentioned bottle of wine, I decide to give him a heads up. He says he'll see me soon. Game back on. We arrive at the bar and he buys me a Miller Light (his favorite beer I now know). We talk and we talk and we talk. We REALLY hit it off. My roommate L reminds me we have to wake up bright and early to drive 2.5 hours to pick up my brand new puppy in the morning. I tell him about this little puppy and ask his opinion on the names--Bayla or Daisy. It's still under debate, but I'm pretty sure he said Daisy. (Little did he know he was helping name his future dog.) So, we hug and he says he'll call...and I think...don't they all...

And the rest my friends is history! Three years later I'm sitting at work in NYC about to go home to my husband and my dog, Daisy. For all you single girls...don't ever turn down a blind date...you never know who you'll meet.

Happy Three Year Anniversary A and Daisy! I can't imagine my life without you both!

***A funny side note I found out about a month before our wedding---when I called A to tell him I was coming to the bar, he was actually in his car on the way back to his parent's house. He TURNED around after I called and went back the bar and pretended to have been there the whole time. Oh, how this crazy world works!

***Also, B (who just had his 70th birthday) was our ringbearer. He carried the pillow and everything!

Thanks for sharing - fate is truly a remarkable thing!

As for dog fur - you have to get the Furminator. I got mine at Petsmart. It will change your vacuum schedule. I now do the Furminator on Sat. and I don't see those Golden Ret. tumbleweeds until the next Sat. It is the best thing EVER! They are absolutely the best dogs, so I'm glad I can now control some of the flying fur!

Enjoy your husband's family!

That is a really cute story. As a side note, my dogs name is Bayla. I have never heard of another dog with that name so to read that you were considering it was humorous to me!
