On a lighter note, I feel gratitude when my husband helps out around the house or does a simple task with the baby. I feel gratitude when someone holds the door open for me. Belated Farewell and Best Wishes To a Friend

I am completely copying Millitini, but I don't think Bama Belle will mind. I was just reading her post about everything she did and accomplished while living in the city. I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before, but Bama Belle dated A's best friend from high school way back when. That's right, she has know my husband longer than me! =) I had heard Bama Belle's name before, but when I moved to the city I was glad to know there was another Bama girl in town. She was so sweet and invited us to her bday party immediately. I can't remember what we had planned, but we did not get the chance to meet then. A few months later, in a desperate attempt to meet new friends I joined the Junior League. I received one of the very last spots in the fall provisional classes. I was at work and so excited about meeting new people when I got an email from Bama Belle. I had never met her and all her email said, was "Are you joining Jr. League?" I was kinda in shock. Strange stalker ex girlfriend that I've never met...I wrote back to her that in fact I was joining up. She wrote back: "Ha, Ha! I'm your provisional leader." I was so relieved and excited that I would know someone on my first day. I met Bama Belle very soon after in the beautiful league house. She was dressed to the nines and so pretty and sweet. =) We were friends immediately. Very soon after we had the first of many margaritas together and the rest was the beginning of an awesome friendship!

When my Grandmother died two weeks before Baby J was born, I was devastated. I didn't want to talk to anyone, I just wanted to be pregnant and cry. Two dozen white roses showed up at my apartment door and I just started crying more. My sweet friend thinks of everything. There are very few moments in life when flowers don't make it better for just a few minutes. They always make me smile and, I too, love to send them when a friend needs a little love. Bama Belle was also our very first visitor at the hospital when Baby J was born. It was so nice to see a Bama face there. She brought me red velvet cupcakes. Can a friend get any better?

When Bama Belle called me to tell me her plans to move back "home," to the place we both had spent countless hours talking about going back to...I was both elated and extremely jealous. This move could not have come at a better time for her. When God closes a door he opens a window, and this is Bama Belle's window. I often told her via our daily G-chats that the time she spent worrying about her NYC dating disasters was a waste because I knew her price charming was waiting back in the South. I'm sorry but Bama Belle was just not going to end up with a Yankee Boy. It's just not the way the story was meant to end. =) Bama Belle, he is there and HE'LL find you. Don't go looking just yet, be patient my friend. Sit back and take a nice long swing on the porch. Drive around in your car (just not between 4pm-7pm on 280.) Wander the LARGE isles at the grocery store and Target. Try to enjoy each and every moment of all things Southern that we both missed so much. Please conference call me in when you describe that first bite of your Chick fil A chicken biscuit to Millitini. Go grab a fruit and cheese platter from O'Carrs, a smiley face cookie from Savages, and a bowl of delicous La Paz cheese dip. Oh heavens, I'm homesick already.

At our last meeting together, Baby J pooped on her new jeans and we enjoyed early afternoon vino at a local outdoor cafe. (And spinach dip, of course.) Bama Belle presented some leftover swag from her old job. Thanks friend. (Secret word, we are enjoying LOTS of Captain Crunch!)
L, I miss you already. I can't tell you what a wonderful person you are. Some guy is going to be so lucky to finally sweep you off your pretty little heels. The Bham League is going to be so lucky to have you as member. La Paz's business just increased by at least 2%. (As did Hot and Hot, Bottega and Highlands...) So, I raise a glass of sweet tea to you my friend. I hold an Orange Thing up high. Cheers to your next chapter. I'm glad you'll be at "home" when I'm there for my required holidays with the in laws. I miss you already. Baby J sends kisses to his Aunt L. See you the last weekend of June. Please have my cheese dip waiting.

XOXO

Help a Fellow Blogger Out!

Hi MMM,

I'm a longtime reader and sometime commenter and hoping I can ask a favor from one blogger to another. My fiance and I are the top ten finalists in a best of Northern Virginia Engagement Stories, sponsored by Northern Virginia Magazine. We have until Friday, 3/27 at 5pm to get as many votes as we can! The prize is $2,000 in wedding services from some great local vendors including the Ritz and a local (and very preppy!) stationary and wedding planning company. $2,000 might not sound like a lot, but it's about 10% of our budget and would be an AMAZING boost! Any chance you could post our link and ask your readers to vote?? It would be so very much appreciated!!!

Thank you!!!

Victoria

No problem Victoria, MMM readers let's help out a fellow blogger!

Update on Life

I have had one hell of a week! Let's see where do I start? My oldest best friend got married Saturday in Atlanta to the most wonderful guy. I have never seen her so happy and she looked absolutely beautiful. That's right...I was there!

You might remember, S had asked me to be a bridesmaid shortly after I found out I was pregnant. We both knew there was a slim chance I would be able to make it so I was made an "honorary bridesmaid" and we agreed I would play it by ear. Since Baby J came early that was really the only way we were able to make the trip! I had told S that the peditrician said Baby J should not fly until he was 2 months, but he actually told me at his 1 month appointment that he would be fine to fly at 7 week. It took some work, but I convinced my husband to take a day off work (he's in the middle of some big deals) and come with me to Atlanta for her wedding so I could surprise her. Our mothers met in lamaze class...we go WAY back. My parents were planning to be there and my little brother and sister were also planning to attend. My Dad and little brother and sister had not had an opportunity yet to meet Baby J so I was so, so excited about the weekend and my big surprise for S!!

Rewind to late Wednesday afternoon. I received a call from my Dad. He let me know that he had gone to the doctor and she suggested he take a stress test. The stress test did not go well and his doctor let him know late Wednesday that he would need a Cardiac Cath at 5:30am the following morning to check on a suspected blockage. I was a bundle of emotions as I realized how scary and serious this was and also that there was no way he and my Mom would be making it to Atlanta. Dad made it through the cath and they had to insert a stent in one of his arteries because he had a 90% blockage. His doctors agreed that his regular doctor saved his life. We were SO lucky and blessed that they caught this! I can't even imagine. I can't even write about what I would do if something had happened to my Daddy. He is my rock and this was one of the scariest 24 hour periods in my life. They released him from the hospital on Friday morning and he is expected to make a full recovery after some Cardiac Rehab.

A and I had to make a game time decision on Wednesday night if we were going to continue with our trip. My Mom had bought a bouncy seat, car seat adapter, pack and play, diapers, wipes, etc, etc and was supposed to pick us up at the Atlanta airport on Thursday evening. My little brother lives in Atlanta, so we decided that we would go ahead and come. My Dad convinced my Mom that he would be okay and my little sister drove home from the U of A instead of going to the wedding. She was his nurse for the weekend so that my Mom could go to the wedding. I know my Mom would normally never leave my Dad's side...but the docs and my Dad said he was fine and she should go. Everyone knew how important it was for her to be there too. She arranged all his meals and for his friends to check on him (in addition to my sister) and headed to Atlanta on Friday, arriving just in time for the rehearsal dinner.

A, Baby J and I arrived on Thursday night. Baby J slept the ENTIRE way there and did not wake up until we arrived at my brother's house. We checked into the Georgian Terrace on Thursday night (they upgraded us to a two bedroom suite which was so nice) and Baby J stayead up for the rest of the evening. Lovely. On Friday, I just walked right into S's bridesmaid luncheon at our country club. I know she was so excited to see us. She said she looked up and was like "oh there is M and Baby J," then a few seconds later she was like "What in the world are they doing here?????" It was so much fun for me!! Did she really think I would miss her big weekend? It was great for her to get to meet baby J. She and her new husband are moving to Germany right after they return from their honeymoon in Costa Rica. (For more on S's adventures, click here to read her blog.)

A's parents graciously offered to come from Birmingham and babysit for all the various events. I think they were pretty excited about some alone time with their grandbaby. We went to the rehearsal dinner on Friday night, but had to leave a little early when the bottle of pumped breast milk we left for them somehow leaked all over the place and Baby J was ready for a meal. Oops--someone forgot to put the valve in the Dr. Brown's bottle. We're still learning! On Friday night, Baby J slept for SEVEN hours. It is his personal best! I felt like a new person on Saturday, it was so lovely. The wedding was at noon on Saturday at Christ the King, followed by the reception at the Fox Theater in the Egyptian Ballroom. Everything was perfect and the weather was heavenly. I'll post a few pictures soon.

We left Atlanta early yesterday morning to come back to the city. Baby J slept the entire way (I think the plane is like a giant bouncy seat complete with white noise.) My Mom made it home to my Dad and he is doing well and goes back to the doctor this week. My sister is coming to visit me this weekend for her spring break so she'll get her fill of her nephew. It was a pretty crazy few days, but I am so glad we decided to make the trip. Seeing someone you love make a lifelong commitment to the perfect guy for them is one of the best things in the entire world.

Congrats S and R! I love you both!

Congrats and Welcome!

Congrats to our newest Preppy Preggo Club member Impoverished Preppy who is due with her 3rd on July the 16th. Please keep her in your prayers (and all the other mommies to be) during this early stage! I recently found out that A & I's friend Liz is having a boy in May and my friend I is having twin girls! Let me know if you would like to be added to the list---magnoliasmarriageandmanhattan@gmail dot com.

Also, please stop by my oldest best friend's new blog today and give her a nice welcome. Click here to see how cute we were way back when. We are 11 days apart (I'm older!) Our parents met in lamaze class and I can honestly say that when I went to my childbirth classes here in NYC I was hoping to meet my new best friend like my Mom did...but no luck. =) Sarah is getting married on March 7th in Atlanta. I was supposed to be in her wedding, but of course, baby J is due on Feb 8th so we downgraded me to a honorary bridesmaid (less pressure to fit in a dress one month postpartum!) I recently met with J's pediatrician for our prenatal visit and asked him if I could travel by plane with baby J and he said he did not recommend traveling with an infant until they are 2 months due to the fact that if he was to catch something, his immune system will not be fully developed and it could be really bad. I told A we should switch pediatricians, but he reminded me that would not change the facts. I'm still scheming up plans on how I can get there. I mean Sarah and I played "wedding," she caught my bouquet and I need to be there! Anyways, on top of a fabulous wedding, Sarah and her finance, Deaner, have made the decision to move to Germany after their wedding. Like A & I, they will move only a week after they return from their wedding! Now, packing up the wedding gifts and the dog and moving to the Big Apple was quite an experience as those of you who have been faithful readers since the beginning of my blog might remember--but can you imagine moving to another country! I know Sarah and Deaner will have an amazing experience and I'm so excited that my friend who can barely write 3 sentences in an email is now blogging about all of these experiences so that I can keep up with her! So, please stop by and leave her a comment, welcome her to blog world and stay tuned for what promises to be an exciting 2009 for her!

Baby Blue with a Rosette AND Faux Pearls

The bow is blue (yesterday it was a deep purple) for all of you that have been waiting around wondering what color bow the bow doc is wearing today. Ha, Ha! She is now driving me up a wall so I don't feel bad anymore about posting the color of her bow.

Wednesday night we had the NYC blogger meet up at Balon on the UES. It was great to meet some of you! We will certainly do it again next month. There were 8 of us this time (including 2 readers and 6 bloggers.)

Those bloggers in attendance (besides myself) were:

http://www.bisforbrown.blogspot.com and http://summerscakes.blogspot.com/
http://bamabelleinthebigcity.blogspot.com/
http://sunshineinnycity.blogspot.com/
http://mmmmtastesgood.blogspot.com/
http://entertaintheplan.blogspot.com/

This weekend A and are going to a jazz concert at The Lincoln Center. His boss gave us some great seats and since Bama isn't playing we figured we would spend 1 Saturday night without football. I can't wait for the concert--now what to wear?? I also want to organize Baby U's closet and try to make some more space. I've never tried selling anything on ebay or Craig's List (I'm a pro buyer on ebay), but I think I'm about to try it. Any tips? I also want to work on my Dream Christmas list. (To be posted next week.) I want to get some good slippers for the hospital and the days after. Any suggestions?

My current favorite maternity warm clothes are this and these and this (I'm about to buy a few more of these) and this (borrowed from a friend). Does anyone in the Preppy Preggo club have any others I should try? Any good finds for Christmas parties? Speaking of the Preppy Preggos we have a new member. I am so excited that J from The Preppy Wedding is our newest member. She has started a new blog, The Preppy Baby. J was my inspiration to start my own blog and I had the pleasure of meeting her last year in NYC. I am so excited for her!

Also, a special congrats to Preppy Preggo member Southern Fried Girl who delivered a sweet boy on Nov 13th!

Today is the last day to sign up for my Lillybella Boutique giveaway. Click here to sign up. Lillybella is going to pick later today so HURRY!

Lime Green Baby!

Random thoughts (aka complaints) about pregnancy-Mrs. Preppy inspired me and Some Like It Southern joined me.

1) Jcrew-why oh why have you not joined the club. Your loyal customers have babies and for 9 whole months we don't know what to do without you. You tease up with 30% off sweater sales but our big ole baby bumps aren't fitting into those pretty new cashmere sweaters. We have to buy Old Navy cashmere. Please create a collection before I have my 2nd child (you have at least 2-3 years.) PS. Old Navy, I don't know how I would live without you. I've worn this sweater so much that I'm going to have to buy a new one. Oh and my hubby isn't laughing at me in my old red Juno style hoodie anymore, because I'm lounging around the house in this fabulous hoodie.

2) Who the hell are these people that say they love being pregnant? Do they not have constant heartburn (God bless Berry flavored tums), reflux in the middle of the night (Zantac 75 I love you), "potty problems" (hello Colace didn't know about you before but I love you now), oh and the queen of all drugs my beloved Zofran. I would not be a functioning human being without you. Don't get my wrong. I am blessed and excited to be a Mom, but feeling like a whale is not something I'm enjoying. And I have 87 days left...not that I'm counting or anything.

3) Pregnancy tights stink. We won't even talk about how difficult it is to put on said tights with a large belly in your way. The little tasks of bending down just aren't working so well these days.

4) I don't think I've ever loved my husband more than when he cut my toenails for me. Granted I'm going to need a pedicure now, but he understands why and will be paying for them as often as I desire. =)

5) Is it possible for a rib to pop out of your stomach?

6) Has anyone found some WARM maternity pants? Lightweight wool is not going to cut it in a few weeks.

7) If you have ever wondered if it is possible to scream, laugh, cry, laugh, fall asleep in a matter of 5 minutes...well it is and I did it last night. God bless A and sweet Daisy.

8) What am I going to do when my child turns 4 months? I have an entire closet of wonderful 0-3 month clothes that friends and family have given me, but I'm in trouble if Baby U is a big boy!

9) It is not cool to tell a pregnant woman she looks big, bigger, huge or is growing. Looking at her and saying "wow" also is not cool. If you are wondering what to say to her, here is a cheat sheet of things that make me smile:

a) You wear pregnancy very well. (A has been instructed to use this with all pregnant woman from here on out and tells me daily now.)
b) You look fabulous (cute, adorable, glowing, fantastic all work too)!
c) You are all baby!

10) Do NOT comment on what I'm eating. It is none of your business and I don't want to hear about it.

Coming to NYC anytime soon? These are the musicals on my "To See" list. I want to see at least 3 before the baby arrives.

Kreativ Blogger Award

I am so honored to have received this award from three fabulous bloggers--Well I Do Declare, Granny Smith Green, and Some Like it Southern. The rule is that I have to list 6 things that make me happy, so here we go:

1) The fall weather in NYC. My walk to work via Madison Avenue is so beautiful. I love seeing all the kids in their precious uniforms. I love my stop at Starbucks for a Pumpkin Spice Latte. I love passing by the fall flowers and pumpkins at the little stands. I love seeing the leaves change and people's new fall threads. I love the displays in the windows. It's a happy part of my day.

2) I love the little kicks from my precious baby boy. They remind me he is growing and doing well. It makes me the happiest though when A can feel a good hard kick. I love to see his smile and how excited he gets. It's an amazing experience.

3) I love getting mail. I love to see a handwritten envelope that promises a pretty invitation inside or a birth announcement from one of my friends. I also love to see the new catalogs for each season. I get especially happy when there is a package--a surprise from a friend, a great ebay find, or just something I've ordered! Checking the mail makes me quite happy!

4) SEC Football. I love it. I love the Tide, but I also love to watch all the other games. My husband bought us ESPN Gameplan and now we don't miss a single game. We go to the Alabama Alum bar some Saturdays. I love tailgating and wish there was more of it in NYC. I look forward to going to Bryant Denny NEXT weekend! Roll Tide Roll! 7-0, but we have a few big ones to go! =)

5) Correspondence. Being far away from family and friends has been one of the biggest struggles with my time in NYC. If it were not for my cell phone and my computer I would not be happy. But, logging in to my email and seeing a familiar name pop up makes my day. I call my Mom everyday on my walk home from work. Our daily phone calls are one of the best parts of my day. I also love handwritten cards (see #3). I try to write them to friends and family as often as possible because I know how happy they make me.

6) My preppy puppy Daisy. Y'all know how much I love my Dog. She is truly woman's best friend. She comforts me during my pregnancy cries. She puts her head on my belly when I'm on the sofa (pretty sure she knows something is up). I love when she gets frisky and bucks like a bronco with one of her toys in her mouth. I love when she brings me her squeaky squirrel or her huge pink/green bone that Auntie Lisagh made her. I love to watch her curl up in a tiny ball and sleep. She is my first baby and she has brought so much joy to my life. I could not have made it in NYC without her. I can't wait to see her rolling on the floor with my baby boy. They are going to love each other!

I would like to bestow the award on these 6 blogs:

1) The Preppy Wedding--What preppy bride doesn't love this blog? Besides being such a sweet girl, Jenn has amazing ideas and is oh so Kreativ! I had the opportunity to meet her this past year and she is just as cool in person! Let's do it again soon!

2) Molly's Mom--I love finding a blog friend that shares my love in great online finds! I have not been reading this blog for very long and it has quickly become one of my favorites to check.

3) A Dozen Eggs's Cookie Crumbs Blog--This lady can make anything out of a sugar cookie. It looks sweet and tastes like heaven. She is quite Kreativ!

4) Short Pump Preppy--She makes me laugh everyday and oh I do love her photo shop abilities.

5) One Fabulous Mom-Her posts are so well thought out and creative. I mean she took us to Greece on a bloggy vacation, can you get any more Kreativ?

6) She Walks in Beauty--Her posts are absolutely beautiful and I still (almost 1.5 years after my wedding) look forward to seeing her picks.

Thank You!!

Thank you for all of your sweet comments yesterday about our baby BOY! I can't believe we're going to have a son. My friends think it is so funny that such a pink obsessed girl is going to be in a sea of blue. But, you know what--I love green and blue and boys outfits can be monogrammed and smocked too! Trust me--I've been shopping online for about the past 24 hours now. =)

I would also like to say thanks for not one, not two, but THREE nominations I received! I have never received an award so if my "baby boy high" wasn't high enough, you girls made me just hit the clouds! Thanks!

The first nomination is from DMLD. She wrote the sweetest note and things on her blog (Getting Here From There) and I can't wait to check it out and read her on a regular basis. The award is the Brillant Weblog Premio 2008/Diamond Award!

The second nomination came from Belle in Bloom! Thanks Belle!

And the third came from the hostess of the fabulous bloggy baby shower, the creative One Fabulous Mom! She just called hers the diamond award and had a different logo so that means I can pass these along to EXTRA people!!

Apparently, when you are nominated for this award, there are a few rules that go along with it. They are as follows:

1. Put the logo on your blog
So, here it is
2. Add a link to the person who awarded you
Already Done! See my preppy blog reads.

3. Nominate at least 7 other blogs (I got nominated 2 times so I do 14!)

4. Add links to those blogs on yours
Most of the blogs I read are linked, so, not a problem

5. Leave a message for your nominees on their blogs

On that now as I nominate:

1. The Preppy Wedding
2. The Preppy Lizard
3. A Study of Schoolbooks and Shoes
4. Kelly's Korner
5. Puttin' On the Grits

I found out last night that we are not going to be able to go "home" for A's 10 year high school reunion tonight. We were supposed to fly standby and spend the weekend at his parent's house. He got put on a big project at work (again) so we're stuck in the city and I'm going to have to spend the weekend shopping for baby boy clothes to make me happy. =)

HAPPY FRIDAY!! Have a wonderful weekend!

Preppy Preggo Club

There seem to be so many preps expecting babies. Kelly made a list on her blog of her blogger buddies that are expecting and I'm going to steal the idea and do the same. I know there are quite a few of you, but leave me your name and due date and I'll post them on the sidebar. You don't have to have a blog to leave me your name and due date.

Preppy Swap Questions

I'm a little late with this for my preppy SUMMER swap partner. But here it goes:

1.Favorite preppy designers? Jcrew, Lilly
2. Favorite preppy accessories? Anything and everything monogrammed, polka dotted
I also love pearls and cardigans.
3. Any hobbies? Besides blogging, working, eating and shopping?
4. Enjoy crafting, if so anything in particular? I'm not that crafty, but I do wrapping paper, tissue, ribbons
5. Favorite books/magazines? People (I have a subscription and read it every week)
6. Any other favorite things? My favorite colors are pink and green (in that order) if the two are polka dotted together--even better.
7. Collect anything? Cookbooks, silver picture frames, earrings, greeting cards (I have quite a collection), stationary
8. Any kids/pets? Daisy, my 3 year old golden retriever
9. Any allergies? Apparently I have a sensitivity to wheat products (gluten). Just found this out and I'm not liking it.
10. Favorite thing to do in the Summer? Go to the beach, boat riding, drinking tropical drinks!
11. What most makes you think of Summer? Warm weather---it still isn't warm in NYC!
12. Favorite treat/drink? Margaritas, anything peanut butter/chocolate, cupcakes, wine, sweet tea
13. Anything else your partner should know about you? I think I covered it, but my blog tells it all!
