Happy New Year!

Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers for my grandmother. Please keep them coming! She had a really tough day on Wednesday, followed by a much better day yesterday. She is awake, but still in ICU. My Aunt works at the hospital in Honolulu where she is staying and my Uncle is a doctor nearby so they upgraded Grandma to the Presidential suite in the ICU and the nurses and docs can't do enough for her. Her 86th birthday was yesterday and my Mom was able to speak with her and said she was in good spirits. Her road to recovery is going to be a very long one and it will probably be awhile before she is able to go back home to Palm Springs, but I'm so thankful that she is doing better. Of course, she is not out of the woods yet. She just underwent major surgery that would be a lot on anyone, and much more on a 86 year old. I know that baby J and I will be making a trip to see her just as soon as he is allowed to travel. It is so important to me for him to meet this amazing woman, his Great Grandmother.

A & I had a great low key New Years Eve. We went to our friends N & I's for dinner. "I" is pregnant with twin girls (due in April) so we sipped on sparkling grape juice and departed before midnight since both of us just wanted to get in our pjs! "I" made a wonderful pregnancy friendly version of baked brie (she used another pasteurized white cheese with apples and cinnamon--so yummy!) Yesterday, we took down our very dead Christmas tree and cleaned the apartment. My nesting instinct is in full force and I just can't organize and clean enough. I still have a long ways to go, but things are coming together.

I'm at work today and it is nice and SLOW. Oh well, not too much longer! =) Tonight we are heading to another friend's apartment to watch the Sugar Bowl. Alabama is playing Utah and she is making shrimp gumbo! See we can be Southern even in the North.

We'll probably take it easy for the rest of the weekend. I get worn out so quickly. I think I also need to buy one or two more maternity pieces. I'm only down to a 2 pairs of pants that "kinda" fit my big bump. I am huge!!!!!!!!!! I am also in dire need of a new bra. My friends in NYC told me to try the Upper Breast Side (great name huh?) to get properly fitted for my first nursing bra--how exciting! I bet those are pretty. Any tips in this department?

I hope each of you had a wonderful New Years! Best wishes for a healthy and happy 2009!

I'm sorry about your grandmother. Too bad you can't fly off to hawaii to be with her!
I have no 3rd trimester tips. I'm soooooooo huge and pretty miserable but I just try to keep going. I do more than I probably ever should but I also take the excuse to be lazy as often as I can. Mostly - I'm just so happy to be having a baby - that it's worth all the misery this body is under. ha!

Keeping your grandmother in my prayers. Tip on anything maternity - buy quality garments i.e. nursing bras - it will be worth the $$$ in the end!! I know you can find cute maternity wear at Target, etc., but any undergarments need to be the best quality. Sounds like you are doing fab though. Have fun watching the Sugar Bowl. I am a true Vol fan {hmmm...I remember what it feels like to go to a bowl game}, but I am cheering for Bama tonight!!

I'm praying for your Grandmother ... I hope she has a speedy recovery.

As far as nursing bras go, (they are functional, not very pretty) ... I would ask them if you should wait to get fitted until after your baby is here. They get bigger if you can believe it! I think Medela brands have all been my favorite. I had to buy a cup size bigger than what I was wearing when I was pregnant & that was already one size bigger.

Get your rest!!

Prayers and best wishes. We're going through similar situations with R. and my grandmothers, and I know it must be so very hard to be far from her.

Take care of yourself and the little one!! Happy New Year!

i'm so sorry about your grandmother. you and she will be in my prayers.

for some reason my maternity pants felt tight today, so i'm sure i'll be buying more in my 34.5 week, too! :) i bought some spanx bras and LOVE them. they're not for breast feeding obviously, but super comfy.

I am sorry to hear about your grandmother. Will keep her in my thoughts....

And good luck with the pants. I have a feeling that I will be sticking to dresses as this 3rd trimester progresses.

I am feeling great, but realizing more and more everyday how it is getting to do normal things.... like, paint my toe nails and put on socks!

Just had a bit of good maternity luck at the Gap end of season clearance sale. Lots of cute maternity things for a steal. Including a ten dollar pair of pants, for which I was desperate. Good luck!

Re: nursing bras- I think they do get bigger after you have the baby( it's been 13 years since my baby was a baby!)Maybe buy one or two now, then others after the baby is born.

Glad to hear that your Grandmother is improving. I just spent WAY too much on pre-nursing supplies- I got a Bravado brand bra which when I did research was said to be the best brand(who knows)- I got a REALLY attractive nude one that is mostly soft and seems like it will be comfortable. I have a small chest still, so I bought up one size- and I thought nude would be practical. I also got a tank that has a built in ursing bra- again- I am small chested so this will work for me- and I got these things called lilly pads- instead of soaking up leakage they are supposed to prevent it- I tried them on and they seemed comfy enough- very strange but we'll see how it all plays out.
